I began my journey in the world of footwear in 1985 when my Husband opened his shoe repair shop. I helped with the polishing, the bookkeeping, shoe fitting and general cleaning duties. In 1987 we became certified to bill Medicare for services and I took classes to become proficient at Insurance Billing. I have always told people that my Husband went to school and I paid a lot of attention. In 1996 I went to work with Don at Stan’s Bootery in Milwaukee as his Pedorthic Assistant and billing specialist for Medicare, Medicaid, and private Insurances. I worked at Sole Outdoors in Vernon Hills Illinois as a store manager and was recognized as Manager of the in 2004 coming out ahead of 73 other mangers within the company. I came to work at Dale’s Bootery in 2007 as a fitter and then worked with Bob and Don to get the Pedorthic Facility accredited. I am the Site Manager for the Pedorthic Office and do all of the Insurance billing for the business. I am also certified fit specialist through New Balance. Just recently I successfully completed the certified fitter course and will be taking the test to become a certified fitter through the American Board for Certification.
I work with Don monthly at a Diabetic education class with an area hospital to educate Diabetics on the importance of good footwear and foot protection. My journey continues as there is always something new to learn and ways to better my knowledge of footwear and proper fitting of shoes.
